| Colorado and rainy The rain came in earnest today. No little drizzle. The mountain tops were shrouded in fog most of the day.
Classes went great. One class had a particularly satisfying vibe - everyone made progress on one point and left happy. Maybe it's because this is the middle day (we end on Saturday) and they're all settled in better. They've had a chance to see how much they're able to take advantage of with all of the inspiration around them.
One boy said he's practicing an hour a day to be able to keep up better with all of his classes and learn more.
This evening was the Guitar Community Get-together. All of the teachers and teacher-trainees.
Last news from today - my roommate left. She was here only on a three-day assignment and had to go. Now I have this big, two-bedroom condo to myself.
Faculty Recital is tomorrow afternoon. | | |
| "When I think of sequins, I think of Andrea Cannon"Yes, folks. That is a true quote spoken tonight at the Tech Rehearsal on the stage of the prestigious Vilar Center in preparation for our Faculty Concert later this week.
You see, one of the Stage Managers found a sequin on the floor and asked which of us it belonged to. She knew very well that it didn't belong to any of us. It was left over from the Wizard of Oz performance recently held there.
Nevertheless, I said it was mine. Hence, a volley of laughter and the above quote-of-the-day. You betcha.
It's still cool. A chilly 52 degrees in Vail right now.
And the first day of Student Classes was cool, too! I have a bunch of good players and nice parents in my classes. And three Teachers training in the Book 2 Course I'm teaching.
Found a restaurant I like tonight - Foxnut. It's an Asian/Sushi place in Beaver Creek Village. I went by myself, but after a few minutes a group of teachers came in and joined me. The soup and lettuce rolls I ordered looked so good everyone of them ordered one or the other. They designated me as their "Flagship Eater"
So, either I eat flagships, or I serve as a beefeater, after a fashion.
It's been a day of Great Quotes!

| Reconnecting / ColoradoIt's time again to travel to Colorado for this year's Colorado Suzuki Institute.
When I left Houston Sunday, it was hot and muggy. It snowed last year during the Colorado Music Camp week, so I packed accordingly.
The plane landed in Denver to chilly temperatures and a gray sky. After boarding the shuttle bus and beginning the two hour commute to Vail / Beaver Creek, the rain changed to snow flurries. But it didn't last - the rain came back again, followed by hail and then more rain.
Definitely not what I was used to in Texas! Actually an interesting and welcome change. I've heard some people complain "Where's our summer? It's not here yet." That's OK though, if they want summer badly enough they can go to Houston.
The first day of camp is always nice - mainly because of reconnecting with colleagues and friends. The 5 guitar faculty will perform 'Spring' from the Vivaldi Four Seasons later on this week at the Vilar Center.
It looks like it will be a fun week of work here.
I just feel badly that my dad is feeling weaker and is getting worse. My family and I are making plans to go and see him. It looks like the soonest we can get there is July. Sometimes it's hard...

| Guitar & Pizza Concert How nice it was today that more than 40 people showed up for our more-or-less impromptou Advanced Student Recital. Wow!! They were extremely complimentary, too. Even though the ensemble was not going to play - it was supposed to be a solo recital - the audience demanded it. I feel pretty sure we made some new friends as well as saw some folks we had not seen in several years.
Maybe we'll throw concert/pizza parties more often.

| Guitar/Pizza Plans and Another Jet PlaneDESTIN PICTURES HERE
Plans are in the works for a concert on Saturday with the kids going to State Performance Contest. And some Young Artist performers who are doing a really good job, but are too young for the Contest. Email invites have been sent to many, many people, friends, colleagues and probably some total strangers. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowd turns up.
At the same time, plans are in the works to get outta town on my first Suzuki Institute Travel of the Season - Colorado Suzuki Institute at Beaver Creek. Packing is always a pain.
Stress..Rewarding. All this planning and juggling can be stressful.
